How can I help with my child's dental anxiety?
Starting your child off with positive experiences at a family dentist is so important for ensuring their future success. Many adult patients who feel fearful or anxious about their dental appointments report that it's due to bad experiences they had as a child.
Our goal at Chesterfield Valley Dental is to make every visit to our office pleasant and upbeat for your child, and this is why Dr. Rahm and his team like to see children early on to help them acclimate to our office and feel comfortable about visiting the dentist.
When should children start coming to the dentist?
We encourage parents to bring their little ones to their own dental cleanings and checkups so children can see what happens during a routine visit and understand that the dental office is not a scary place. Parents can also lead by example at home by talking with their children about their oral health, and showing them how to keep the "sugar bugs" away with regular brushing and flossing. When it's time for your child to visit us, you can stay by their side if that helps them feel more comfortable and we'll explain everything we're doing throughout the procedure to ensure they feel safe and comfortable.
