Questions to Ask Your Dentist: A Checklist
Your oral health is important!
Your dental provider is a part of your healthcare team, and you should feel comfortable asking the questions you need to in order to have the knowledge and tools for optimum oral health.
Here are some common questions and answers from your family dentist in Chesterfield, MO.
How Often Should I Have a Checkup and Cleaning?
For most patients, a six-month cleaning and checkup is sufficient to maintain excellent oral health. Patients managing gum disease may need additional cleaning appointments throughout the year to help keep their condition under control.
When Should My Child First Visit the Dentist?
At Chesterfield Valley Dental, Dr. Rahm likes to begin seeing children around the age of one year old. Early visits with your child allow us to get to know them, evaluate their oral development, and help them acclimate to the dental office and what takes place during their visits.
Do I Need X-Rays? Are They Safe?
Dr. Rahm recommends x-rays once per year, unless you have specific concerns that need to be identified. We use digital x-rays at Chesterfield Valley Dental because they emit 80% less radiation than traditional x-rays and are safer for our patients and the environment.
How Can I Take Care of My Teeth at Home?
Brushing twice daily and flossing at least once each day is recommended to maintain good oral health. Consider using an electric toothbrush to do the hard work of brushing properly for you.
An antibacterial mouth rinse can give you added protection against the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Be sure to consult us for product recommendations since not all mouth rinses may be beneficial.
